Training Day and Sharing of Good Practice
(for existing Open the Book Teams, led by the OtB National Trainer Julie Jeffries

Open the Book - Full Day Training
Wednesday 11th June 2014
10am - 3.30pm
at The Education Centre, Stag Hill, Guildford GU2 7UP

The day is aimed both at those considering starting Open the Book and those already in a team.
The training will include:
- how you can get started and what you need to do
- demonstrating and practicing how to carry out a 10 minute Open the Book act of collective worship
- a variety of story presentations
- demonstrating the use of props, costumes and visual aids
The day will be led by Alison Hendy and Katherine Tuck (Diocesan Children's Work Team)

Besom Training Conference
Saturday 15th March 2014 at St John's Church, Manor Farm Lane, Egham TW20 9HL
8.30am - 5pm
A one day conference to help those who wish to see every member of the local church choosing to be involved with the poor and the excluded in their local community. Many churches have found this to be a very helpful way to build worthwhile links into their local community.

World War I Commemoration - Resource Centre Open Day

Godly Play Courses
This offers an insight into children's spirituality and the background to Godly Play. A Taster Session of Godly Play is usually a workshop option at Creating Sparks, our annual training day in May for children's leaders.
Introductory One Day Courses
For those interested in or just starting Godly Play
Each 1 day course runs on a Saturday:
26th April; 27th September 2014
9.30am - 4pm
Covers: Telling stories the Godly Play way; Getting to grips with the structure of a session; Resources and long-term plans. The course includes lots of practical management.
Cost: £25 per person (or £20 if two or more from the same organisation/church attend)
One Day Course for Teachers - 'Nurturing Children's Spirituality'
Thursday 6th March 2014
9am - 3pm A 1 day course for teachers using Godly Play principles and practice to explore this topic.
These courses are led by Sue North-Coombes (Godly Play Regional Trainer)

Creating Sparks 2014
Inspiring children's work in your church
on Saturday 17th May
10am - 3.30pm
at Holy Trinity CofE Junior School, Cline Road, Guildford GU1 3NH
This training event is for everyone who has an interest in children's work in their church, be they: children's leader; employed worker; clergy; occasional helper or prayerful supporter. Expand your thinking about children and faith, develop your skills and share your experiences.

Worship: a wide variety of workshops including 'Story telling for under 5s' with Vicki Howie, 'Who let the dads out' with Mark Chester, using drama, signing and many more. Also an interactive prayer space, Triangle Bookshop and opportunities to network.
Diocesan Certificate in Children's Work/Ministry
It is designed for those who are new to working with children in a church context, or for those who wish to improve their skills, techniques and understanding. It is also a wonderful opportunity to meet children's leaders from other churches and share ideas.
Fee: £20 (includes free entrance to Creating Sparks in May 2014)

Dementia Friendly Parishes
Free information sessions to help you and your parish become more welcoming to those who live with dementia.
Hearing Aid Maintenance Training - Become a Champion!
1 in 6 people have a hearing loss in our diocese. An increasing population and longer life expectancy, mean that our church buildings need to be able to welcome and accomodate those with sensory loss to aid communication. We are looking or volunteers to be trained in the basic maintenance of hearing aids, offering these simple maintenance sessions at exisitng church social events e.g. coffee mornings, lunches, afternoon teas.
