Guildford Pub Bombing 40th Anniversay Commemoration Service

Sunday 5th October 2014 4pm
Quakers' Acre, North Street (next to Guildford Library and opposite the building which was formally the Horse and Groom) Guildford, where there is a memorial plaque to the five people who were killed that evening.

The service will remember the five who died and the many who were injured, pay tribute to the courageous work of the emergency services who helped, acknowledge with gratitude the duty of those in the armed forces who were the targets, and express the longing for peace and reconciliation, now widely shared.

All are welcome to join the annual informal get together of Carers / Former Carers and those who are being cared for, with tea and cake in the Refectory. For those who wish to stay, the reception will be followed be a dedicated Evensong in the Cathedral from 5.30pm - 6.30pm

Hearing Aid

Hearing Aid Maintenance Training - Become a Champion!

1 in 6 people have a hearing loss in our diocese. An increasing population and longer life expectancy, mean that our church buildings need to be able to welcome and accomodate those with sensory loss to aid communication. We are looking or volunteers to be trained in the basic maintenance of hearing aids, offering these simple maintenance sessions at exisitng church social events e.g. coffee mornings, lunches, afternoon teas.

Cathedral Poppy

Surrey Royal British Legion Poppy Launch at Guildford Cathedral

Friday 24th October 2014 from 9.45am

This will be a spectacular day for the Surrey Poppy Appeal starting at 9.45am, when The Very Revd Dianna Gwilliams, Dean of Guildford, and Dame Sarah Goad, the Lord Lietenant of Surrey, will see the amazing JUMP 4 HEROES parachute team land in the Cathedral grounds. The first poppies for 2014 will be presented, accompanied by the Surrey Poppy Petals to announce the start of the Surrey 2014 Poppy Appeal.

There will be a launch ceremony, attended by a choir of 150 boys from the Guildford County School specialist music college.

The day will also include a sponsored abseil event, raising funds for the Royal British Legion and, for the second year running, a giant laser poppy projected onto the Cathedral Tower, as well as a 'sound and light show' and entertainment by mass Cadet bands and 1940s vocal group The Three Belles.
