St John's CofE Primary School, Dorking

With a swimming pool, an astroturf games area, a school allotment, spacious light classrooms and a new children's kitchen, St John's CofE Primary School, Dorking, (converted 1/11/13) offers a wealth of opportunities for children aged three to eleven to explore learning.

The school, with 198 pupils, matches its rich curriculum with high expectations for every pupil, aiming to inspire confidence and curiosity in learning and celebrating diversity in its children who come from a wide variety of backgrounds.

Mutual respect and friendship underpin the school's work. Each child is known and valued as the school strives to ensure that every pupil achieves their best through high quality teaching and support and as it confidently sets about making improvements under the leadership of its permanent headteacher who joined the school in April 2015.

Strong communications with parents and roles of responsibility for children, such as in the 'Pupils Parliament', encourage children and their families to feel fully part of the school community and help create positive 'can do' attitudes.

Day trips for every year group complement the topics being covered and have recently included London Zoo and the Science Museum. Children are also offered the opportunity to take part in residential trips which focus on either environmental studies or outdoor education, including activities such as abseiling, canoeing or raft building.

"We love St John's because we love learning" - year 2 child

Do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your minds, so that you may discern what is the will of God—what is good and acceptable and perfect.
