With a broad, exciting curriculum and rich opportunities, pupils are encouraged to develop a lif-long love of learning at St Mary's CofE Primary School (converted 1/11/13), which serves the rural Surrey village of Chiddingfold and surrounding areas.
School leaders believe that self-esteem and confidence, tempered with humility and respect are the most important predictors for children's success. As such, pupils are encouraged to understand that they have a part to play in maintaining the school environment and sharing in the responsibility for creating and sustaining good relationships within the community.
Each week, the school, which has around 180 pupils, focuses on a particular value, such as humility, friendship or wisdom, and the school's rewards system is closely linked to these values so that children are given recognition for demonstrating these core values.
The school has high expectations and seeks to promote personal development and meet a range of pupils' needs, including the needs of higher ability children, with extension opportunites such as School Newspaper Group, Philosophy Club, Business/Entrepreneur skills development, Computer Club and a Chess Club.
Since becoming an academy the school has made significant progress, with pupils' behaviour and the provision for their personal development and welfare deemed to be 'outstanding'.
Pupils' three-word summaries:
'Awesome, fabulous, fun!'
'Friendly, encouraging school!'
'Beautiful, amazing place!'
