Exploring Faith Matters
What is after Alpha? Well, Exploring Faith Matters (EfM) has been running for 10 years in the Guildford Diocese. This international ecumenical programme of developing lay people provides a four year course, which is taken in one year units. Students can study all years continuously or single years with breaks in between.
1st year: Old Testament
2nd year: New Testament
3rd year: Church History
4th year: Ethics, Doctrine and Theological Concept
EfM is not a programme for educating people for church ministry, but for developing lay people in their ministry in the world. Nevertheless, many people find it an effective course that develops personal confidence, a mature appreciation of the Christian Faith and the encouragement to consider new expressions of service in the church and the world. Cost of the course per year is £195 and includes all workbooks. Students meet in a local group to learn as well as doing home study.
There are currently two groups in Fleet and one in Aldershot. We are urgently looking for people to facilitate new groups. Ideally, clergy, Readers, graduates of the Programme or people mature in their faith, with experience of working in small groups are ideal to become mentors. Mentor training is provided all over the UK and, when accredited, individuals can establish EfM groups in their locality. Mentors receive renumeration for their work, which helps to fund their ongoing training.
