Football united the community in a charity tournament designed to underline shared passions and encourage friendship across the Woking area.

Eight teams took part in the ‘People of Faith’ football tournament under blazing sunshine at the Winston Churchill School Sports Centre, Woking.

Players from local charities, secular and religious organisations competed for the title which went to Woking Asian Business Forum's team with Woking United Football Club coming in second place.

The tournament was organised by Woking People of Faith, a charity which works to facilitate understanding of differences in faith and culture for the good of the whole community.

Spokesperson the Revd Pippa Ross-McCabe said:”The charity runs a number of events which help to build friendships, educate and serve the community.

“Volunteers made the tournament possible and we were supported by local club members who kindly offered their time and expertise as referees.

“Each team played twice before a lunch under the trees when players, visitors and friends enjoyed the opportunity to get to know one another.

“Woking’s mayor and mayoress, Cllr Michael Smith and Mrs Anne Smith attended the semi-finals and final in the afternoon and presented medals to the winning teams.” -ends
