Guildford Cathedral holds day of prayer on Nov 19 as Synod debates women bishops

Date: 14 November 2012
As the General Synod debates Women in the Episcopate, Guildford Cathedral is inviting all of those seeking a solution to join in a day of prayer on Monday November 19. There will be opportunities for public and private prayer throughout the day from Morning Prayer to Evensong (7.30am to 5.30pm). At hourly intervals from 10am to 5pm there will be opportunities to share in time of public prayer, including reflections based around particular themes such as wisdom and unity. Residentiary Canon the Revd Canon Dr Julie Gittoes said: "We offer this space for focused prayer in a spirit of generous hospitality, recognising the strength of feeling on both sides of the debate about the proposed legislation with regard to women in the Episcopate. "The Cathedral offers a very warm welcome to anyone who wishes to join us in prayer for part or all of the day; we hope that people around the diocese will offer similar prayers in their local church, at work or at home." The Eucharist will be celebrated at the cathedral at 8am and Choral Evensong will be at 17.30. The Lady Chapel will be available for private prayer throughout the day.
