Bishop of Guildford greets royal baby

Date: 22 July 2013
THE BISHOP OF GUILDFORD, The Rt Revd Christopher Hill, has welcomed the birth of the Royal Baby boy today.

Bishop Christopher said, "as a grandfather who has recently rejoiced over the birth of a second grandson (together with two granddaughters) I am delighted to welcome the birth of a baby boy to the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge."

"The lives of the Royal Family can be mysterious, but the birth of a child is an occasion with which we can all identify."

"So,in celebrating the birth of the heir to the throne, and also rejoicing in the birth of every new child, we reflect on the miracle of birth, which is a sign of hope, of joy and of God-given life."

The Church of England has also published a prayer to welcome the birth of the child who will eventually become the defender of the faith when crowned. It reads:

"God our Creator,
who knows each of us by name
and loves us from all eternity:
we give you thanks for new life and human love.
Bless William and Catherine
as they welcome **** (full names) into the world.
Give them patience and wisdom
to cherish and love him/her as she/he grows.
Surround the family with the light of hope and the warmth of your love today and always; through Jesus
Christ our Lord.

Amen
