Confirmation book still big-seller after 23 years

Date: 13 August 2013
A BOOK ON CONFIRMATION written 23 years ago by a rector in the Diocese of Guildford has this year reached something of a landmark, having sold nearly 16,000 copies with new versions still being updated and reprinted.

Canon Nick Aiken, Rector of Wisley with Pyrford in Woking, wrote the book, ‘Being Confirmed’ in 1990, and it is still today helping young people be informed and educated in what confirmation is all about.

Nick said: “I am delighted to say that the book has sold nearly 16,000 copies and continues to be a valuable gift and guide to confirmation.

“I did not imagine it would be in print after all these years but I am glad that it is still useful as a course and a personal gift by individuals and parishes to those who have been confirmed.

“I was very honoured when former Archbishop of Canterbury Rowan Williams kindly wrote the foreword for the book, saying that it provides a clear guide for your own journey as disciples, and a set of starting points for talking about what you believe with others.”

The book is available from any bookshop, or can be found on publisher SPCK’s website (below).
