BBC Surrey takes Mary and Joseph on an Advent pilgrimage

Date: 27 November 2013
In a twist on the Mexican tradition of ‘Posada’, BBC Surrey’s Sunday Breakfast Show is sending nativity figures of Mary and Joseph on a journey around the radio station’s transmission area.

Painted figures of Mary and Joseph (on loan from Teddington Baptist Church) will be blessed by the Dean of Guildford, the Very Reverend Canon Dianna Gwilliams live on the Breakfast Show on December 1st before being taken on a tour a number of different ‘host’ churches during Advent.

Their journey will be documented on social media (see https://twitter.com/CofEGuildford www.facebook.com/CofEGuildford) as well as via live reporter updates each Sunday morning.

The Sunday Breakfast show’s producer and presenter, Emily Jeffery says: “This is a BBC Surrey first and we feel a great opportunity for us to connect with local churches of many different styles and traditions and to find out what they are up to as they prepare to celebrate the birth of Christ”.

The Sunday Breakfast show is on BBC Sussex and BBC Surrey between 6 and 9am each Sunday morning 104.0, 104.6 FM (Surrey) 104.5, 104.8 & 95.0–95.3 FM (Sussex).
