Beating the bounds with pedal power

Date: 02 June 2014
Wisley with Pyrford parishioner Eldon Sandys (70) beat the parish bounds in an unusual way on 31 May when he clocked up 50 miles cycling around and across the parish to mark the 50th anniversary of the dedication of the Church of the Good Shepherd. The ride was also part of Eldon’s training regime for the Prudential Ride London – Surrey 100 this August - a 100 cycle ride from the Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park on closed roads through the capital and into the Surrey countryside before returning to London and finishing on The Mall. Eldon said: "It was a lovely day for a ride’ sand though 50 years of the Church of the Good Shepherd is significant, riding past the two 12th century churches in our parish – St. Nicholas’ and Wisley – really reinforces the durability of the Christian faith.’ Eldon said: ‘I’m doing the Prudential ride to raise money for The EIKON Charity, a Surrey based charity which our church collectively supports. EIKON does wonderful work providing long term support for some of the county’s most vulnerable people http://eikon.org.uk/ and they deserve all the support we can give them. The Prudential will be a tough challenge for me now I have reached the great age of 70 but with God’s help, regular training, and a following wind, I intend to do it!’ You can sponsor Eldon’s ride for The EIKON Charity at http://eikon.org.uk/
