Quick! Government announces £15 million roofs scheme for church buildings

Date: 08 December 2014

Listed churches are being urged to apply for a share of a one-off £15 million fund for the repair of roofs and rainwater goods on vulnerable church buildings announced in the Government's Autumn Statement.

Grants of between £10,000 and £100,000 will be available to listed places of worship where roof and rainwater goods repairs are urgent and necessary - with the deadline for applications on January 30.

The secretary of Guildford's Diocesan Advisory Committee Wendy Harris said: "This is great news! I would urge all eleigible parishes to make the most of the opportunity.

"You don't have to have had all your permissions in place to apply, just evidence that the work is needed, so an up to date QI Report would be ideal. If you want to discuss this further, please do contact me on 01483 790313."

The scheme is being administered by the National Heritage Memorial Fund (NHMF) and information is available on a dedicated website: www.lpowroof.org.uk .
