Families Matter

Parenting Support Project

Leatherhead, Walton and Farnham

Families Matter helps families with children of primary to transition age who are sometimes quite isolated. It aims to offer timely early help when it is needed as this is more effective in promoting the welfare of children. It also aims to strengthen communities by building on a family’s resilience.

Communities Engagement runs three projects in areas identified to be particularly in need of this kind of support and we receive funding from Surrey County Council to deliver services under their Early Help agenda.

After talking to families we support them in the areas identified together - this could be by helping families to access local facilities in their area, providing parenting information and courses, support groups or it might mean, if appropriate, carefully matching the family to one of our volunteer befrienders who can offer practical and emotional support or simply sit and chat in the family home. All our volunteers are DBS checked and receive training.

“The kingdom of heaven is like a mustard seed that someone took and sowed in his field;

it is the smallest of all the seeds, but when it has grown it is the greatest of shrubs and becomes a tree, so that the birds of the air come and make nests in its branches.”

Matthew 13:31
