Re-ordering and church centre among key projects
2015 was another busy year for the Diocesan Advisory Committee (DAC). The committee considered 158 cases, and issued 125 certificates for faculty applications, as well as making 17 site visits.
Applications for AV equipment in churches continues apace, and kitchens and loos continue to be high on the agenda! This year saw St John’s, Egham start work on their long-awaited new church centre, and the Church of the Good Shepherd, Pyrford complete a major re-ordering. And St Mary’s, Thorpe added four new bells to mark the 800th anniversary of Magna Carta.
In December 2014 the Government pledged £30 million for churches to carry out urgent repairs to their roofs and ‘rainwater goods’ (guttering and pipework), with a very tight deadline of the end of January. Grants were available between £10,000 and £100,000. Thirty churches in the diocese applied, and of those eight were successful. The uptake was so great that the Government announced in December 2015 that a further £25 million was being made available, with a deadline for the end of February 2016. We are hoping for a good outcome!
The long awaited simplification of the faculty system was confirmed by Parliament during the summer and came into force in January 2016. Plans are in place to offer training evenings shortly.
As always, we are very thankful to the members of the committee for all they do to support the diocese, giving up their time to attend meetings, make site visits and offering their expert advice to parishes.
I am always on hand to answer any queries parishes may have and offer advice when needed, so do please get in touch.
