Open Day Saint Columba’s House and Church of the Holy Cross
Explore Woking’s hidden secrets with a visit to St Columba’s House, a modern retreat centre owned by the Sisterhood of St Peter. The Church of the Holy Cross Chapel, part of the original convent and convalescent hospital for the Sisterhood, now owned separately by the Society of Saint Pius X, will be open from 12.30.
Enjoy a rare look at the Chapel’s stunning 19th Century architecture designed by the renowned Victorian architect, John Loughborough Pearson. Make sure to take a look at the stunning crypt chapel, with byzantine style mosaics and columns of Connemara marble.
Then come across to St Columba’s House to explore the house and chapels and enjoy some free refreshments. Take a tour of the retreat house and learn some more about the history of St Peter’s Convent and what the Charity does today.
