All are welcome to Christ Church Guildford to hear Revd Faez Jirjees, the Vicar of St George’s Baghdad, speak on Sunday 22nd September at both 10am and 6pm services.
Despite the continuing risks faced by Christians in Iraq, Revd Faez Jirjees is the only ordained Anglican vicar in the whole of Iraq. A peacemaker - regularly meeting with leaders from across the sectarian divide, including Sunni and Shia, he initiates interfaith dialogue and has diligently built relations across religious divides.
Faez has been recognised by the Iraqi and British governments for his extraordinary reconciliation and humanitarian work. In January 2019, the Prime Minister of Iraq, Adil Abdul-Mahdi, paid St George’s a visit. Flanked by his security team, the Prime Minister looked around the church, the primary school and the medical clinic (which treats people of all faiths). Mr Abdul-Mahdi remarked:
“I am dazzled at what you have achieved; there is nothing else like this in Iraq.”
Speaking about the upcoming visit Revd Nick Williams, Christ Church Guildford, said:
"We are privileged to have Revd Faez Jirjees joining us for the day. He brings a wealth of experience and stories - we have a lot we can learn from him. It is sure to be a wonderful time together - we'd love to see as many people as possible at the service."
