Day on Prayer – September 24

Date: 03 September 2011

Back by popular demand this autumn is the ‘Diocesan Day on Prayer’ which takes place on Saturday September 24 at St Thomas-on-the-Bourne, near Farnham.

The Revd Alan Elkins (pictured), faith and spirituality adviser for the diocese, is once again involved in organising and delivering the event. “Last year we were encouraged by how many people were prepared to take the time to explore prayer, and the way it can strengthen our journey with God.”

Following on from last year’s successful format, a selection of workshops will be on offer - all with the aim of stimulating and extending prayer life.

Alan explains: “We hope that there will be something to appeal to everyone; popular workshops such as Meditation for the Beginner, Contemplation – the Ignation Way and Getting Started and Keeping Going, will be repeated alongside some new ones including Praying with Colour and Visualisation as a Form of Prayer.”

Walk-in Spiritual Direction taster sessions will again be on offer,” which have proved popular in the past with people considering whether spiritual direction might help them on the journey,” adds Alan.

The day runs from 9.30am until 4pm and there will be an opportunity to worship together in the middle of the day. Booklets giving details of all the workshops will be in churches soon - look out for one and return the booking form as soon as possible please, as numbers are strictly limited. Cost is just £5 per person.

“The kingdom of heaven is like a mustard seed that someone took and sowed in his field;

it is the smallest of all the seeds, but when it has grown it is the greatest of shrubs and becomes a tree, so that the birds of the air come and make nests in its branches.”

Matthew 13:31
