Fancy performing Stainer's Crucifixion or listening at the Cathedral perhaps?

Date: 21 February 2012
Singers and congregations alike are invited to join St Francis’ Church, Guildford, in a musical offering of praise to God as they remember Jesus' Easter sacrifice.

The church is forming a choir of singers from local churches to perform the Crucifixion by Sir John Stainer at 7pm on Sunday 1 April - and is warmly inviting the public to attend and enjoy a free Lenten supper beforehand too.

The congregation will also have a part to play in singing the four hymns which are an integral part of the cantata.

Churchwarden Jackie Drake-Smith said: "I am sure it will be a very spiritual and reflective experience in which choir and congregation come together in a sacred act of meditative worship as we begin our journey into Holy Week.

"I would love to hear from any interested singers ASAP so I can provide them with rehersal dates. It would be wonderful to see new faces and to have a real collaborative event in our small church!"

Scores will be provided for those who do not have their own.Tenors and basses will rehearse at 7.45pm on Tuesdays 21, 28 February and sopranos and altos on Thursdays 23 February and 1 March.

All four parts will rehearse together weekly on Tuesday 6 March, Thursday 15 March, Tuesday 20 March, Thursday 29 March.
