Godalming's Christmas Tree Festival brings the town into the church

Date: 28 November 2012
Forty Christmas trees decorated by local schools, charities and businesses are lighting up St Peter and St Paul’s Church, Godalming throughout this week.

On the opening day of the church’s Christmas Tree Festival a band of volunteers from the congregation welcomed a steady stream of visitors who came to marvel at the trees, enjoy children's activities, buy gifts from the craft stalls and have a snack and a hot drink.

The festival continues throughout the week with entertainment most evenings, ending on Sunday December 2 with the Christmas Tree Service for all ages at 10am.

Rector of the parish Canon Mervyn Roberts - who also helped compere Godalming Town Council’s Christmas light switch-on - said: "The Christmas Tree Festival is a wonderful opportunity to link in with the activities in the town whilst raising funds for local good causes.

"Why not pop in to see the lovely trees and enjoy our entertainment and hospitality in the beautiful setting of our ancient Parish Church this week - or join us for our special service on Sunday?"
