Guildford YMCA’s fifth Sleep£asy Sleepout will take place on 2 February in the grounds of Willow Grange - and there are still spaces for hardy souls who can raise sponsorship.
Among those bedding down outdoors will be Anne Milton MP, CEO of Guildford YMCA Pete Brayne as well as representatives from parishes and our own diocesan intern Dominic Kirby. All are hoping to raise both awareness of youth homelessness and significant funds to combat it.
Anne said: “The YMCA does a fantastic job and there is no better way to highlight the plight of homeless young people than sleeping out for the night. But Guildford YMCA needs funds to support the work that they do. We might be cold through the night but please warm our hearts and give generously! You can donate to mine at https://mydonate.bt.com/fundraisers/annemilton1.â€
Last year just ten people slept out and raised a remarkable £12,000 between them, making a difference to the lives of many young people.
Pete said: "Developing young people is the main focus of Guildford YMCA’s work. When young people have experienced homelessness finding direction in life is a challenge and engaging with YMCA key workers and youth projects such as Prince’s Trust Teams makes a vital difference. We support these young people for as long as they need us."
If you are interested in joining the Sleepout email email@example.com with your details. Or make a donation to encourage those taking part. Cheques (made payable to Guildford YMCA Ltd) can be sent to Pete Brayne, Guildford YMCA, Bridge Street, Guildford, GU1 4SB.
