Nearly 125 young children ‘went bananas’ at the Church of the Good Shepherd in Pyrford this August, as they took part in a busy programme of holiday activities organised by the church’s youth leadership team.
Running over five days at the beginning of August, the ‘Allsorts Holiday Club’ event gave the children a chance to sing, dance, cook, play games and do craft work assisted by adult volunteers from the church community.
There were outdoor parachute games and indoors the children set to work creating bunches of grapes made from marzipan, decorating stones and making necklaces.
The aim was to give the children a fun time, and the parents a break, during the long school holidays.
The theme of the week was set by Suzanne Lees-Smith, Children and Families Minister in the Parish of Wisley with Pyrford.
She said: "We were 'going bananas' for a week of fun-filled activities hearing stories of Bible characters who ‘went bananas’ for God.
“The week was a great chance for the children to make new friends and meet school friends.
“Over the whole week about 125 children took part, with around 80 children attending each day. We were helped by some 40 adult volunteer leaders over the week to make it all possible.â€
