Guildford Cathedral Appeal reaches £400,000

Date: 12 December 2013
“Guildford Cathedral is at risk and we need your help to secure its future. Please give us your support and ensure that this remarkable building survives and can continue its work of serving the local community and the visitors who come from around the world. Together, we can write a new chapter in the exciting story of ‘The People’s Cathedral” (Dianna Gwilliams, Dean of Guildford) Action is needed due to the deterioration of the acoustic plaster in the Cathedral’s ceiling vaults and the total Appeal cost is £7 million for repairs and improvements to the Cathedral. In September 2013 we were proud to announce that an initial grant of £329,000 had been awarded by the Heritage Lottery Fund (HLF) to help with the cost of preparing for Stage 1 of the repair project. We must now raise £1.3 million by August 2014. This will enable the Cathedral to apply for a £4.5 million grant from the Heritage Lottery Fund. We have to date raised a very generous £350,000.00 - but time is short and we urgently need your support to reach our fundraising target for 2014. Twitter account Guildford Cathedral @GuildCathAppeal - please re-tweet if you can to spread the word !, - Thanks And the Guildford Cathedral Facebook page is also regularly updated with information about the Appeal For further information and to obtain an Appeal leaflet, please contact The Appeal Office at Guildford Cathedral TEL: 01483 547878 or email: out urgent repairs, removing acoustic plaster throughout the ceiling containing asbestos and to protect the Cathedral for current and future generations.
