Funding needed for primary school leavers

Date: 06 January 2014
FUNDING IS NEEDED to provide primary school children with a gift of a small wooden cross at their leaving ceremony.

For three days every July, Guildford Cathedral is packed with eleven year old children and their teachers.

This is the only time that many children visit the cathedral and for most of them it is the biggest service that they will ever attend.

The Cathedral like to give the children something to take away with them to mark the occasion, as Schools Officer, Jane Whittington explained:

'Our thought is to give each of them a small wooden holding cross with a card containing an explanation of the holding cross and a suitable prayer that they could use as they leave primary school and start at secondary school.'

A quality cross will be cost around £2.50 each. If any readers know of a charity or organisation that may be willing to provide such funding they would be delighted to hear from you.

“The kingdom of heaven is like a mustard seed that someone took and sowed in his field;

it is the smallest of all the seeds, but when it has grown it is the greatest of shrubs and becomes a tree, so that the birds of the air come and make nests in its branches.”

Matthew 13:31
