New Bishop of Guildford selection approaches next stage

Date: 15 May 2014
THE CROWN NOMINATIONS Commission (CNC) will meet on 11 June to agree a list of four people to interview for the Bishop of Guildford vacancy.

The CNC will select candidates from a list of around 12 names and interviews will take place on 21 and 22 July.

One of the six Guildford representatives, the Revd Debbie Sellin said: “Thank you for your prayers for the Crown Nominations Commission as we prepare to appoint a new Bishop of Guildford.

“We greatly appreciate your prayer support and would encourage you to continue to remember us.”

The meeting will take place during the Diocesan Week of Prayer (9-14 June). Each visitor is encouraged to write a prayer or word for the new Bishop.

There will be different places within the cathedral for prayer and creative opportunities for praying for spiritual maturity, numerical growth and deepening community engagement.

The Dean of Guildford, the Very Revd Dianna Gwilliams said: “Can you make plans during the week of prayer to come to Guildford Cathedral to pray for the CNC?

“There will be new and familiar ways of praying, and you can also join the week of prayer from your parish, home or even a tablet device."

Prayer material is available from the cathedral and 24/7 Prayer websites. If you want to come as a parish or team group please e-mail so a group visit can be co-ordinated. Individuals are welcome at any time.

Each person has a part to play in bringing in God's Kingdom and this week will be very important for the life of our diocese. Please do join in!

On behalf of the CNC - please pray for the following:

  • For the Archbishops and Secretaries involved in reducing the pool of names to a long list of around 12, that God will guide their deliberations
  • For the six Guildford representatives (names below) - that we continue to work well together
  • For God's wisdom and discernment in all the decisions that will be made
  • For those who will be considered for the post, that they too will sense God's leading through the process
  • For Guildford Diocese, as we prepare for new leadership under God's direction

Mike Bishop, Robert Cotton, Peter Harwood, Keith Malcouronne, Anne Martin, Debbie Sellin.
