Welcome our new Revs

Date: 28 June 2014
The diocese’s newest priests were ordained by Bishop Ian at Guildford Cathedral on Saturday 28 June before holding Holy Communion for the first time in their respective parishes.

Those ‘priested’ at the annual Petertide Ordinations are pictured on the steps of St Ursula’s Porch at Guildford Cathedral, just a few days before at the rehearsal for the important diocesan weekend.

A warm diocesan welcome to the Reverends Mike Barton, Claygate; Gareth Dicks, Cove; Martin Galpin, Surrey Weald Benefice, Jon Hidden, Christ Church and St Martha-on-the-hill, Guildford; Julian McAllen, Christ Church, Epsom Common; Anne Mitchell, St Michael, Camberley; Folli Olokose, Cobham and Stoke d’Abernon; Barney Pimentel and Zoe Pimentel, both St Mary of Bethany, Woking; Maggie Troy, Farncombe; Lizzie Toms, Crondall and Ewshot; and Dermot Verschoyde, Merrow.

On Sunday 29 June, Bishop Ian will also ordain the diocese's new deacons as they complete their ministerial training - with most deacons then becoming next year's new priests.

“The kingdom of heaven is like a mustard seed that someone took and sowed in his field;

it is the smallest of all the seeds, but when it has grown it is the greatest of shrubs and becomes a tree, so that the birds of the air come and make nests in its branches.”

Matthew 13:31
