Podcast: The Church's Role in Magna Carta

Date: 10 June 2015

MagnaNews"Without the Church, we would not have Magna Carta today"

As the world's eyes turn to the banks of the Thames at Runnymede, Bishop Andrew has been asking the question of what part the Church had to play in the sealing of that first historic document on that site - within the bounds of the modern Diocese of Guildford - in 1215.

800 years on, in conversation with historian Professor Nigel Saul of Royal Holloway, University of London, Bishop Andrew discovers the role of the scholarly Archbishop, Stephen Langton, and how the church provided the only reliable network for sending the message of Magna Carta far and wide.

Listen to Bishop Andrew in conversation with Nigel Saul:

800th anniversary special recording of a discussion between the Bishop of Guildford, and medieval historian Professor Nigel Saul.
