Children and staff at a Church school in East Molesey have marked the start of construction on their new school building.
Teachers and students came together on 22 September for a ground breaking ceremony at St Lawrence C of E (aided) Junior School. The event marked the beginning of construction on the school building for the next academic year.
Head teacher Damian Tucker said: “This new state of the art school building will allow the children of St Lawrence to come and learn in an excellent environment.”
Pupils from every year group donned hi-vis jackets and hard hats to inspect the work on their building, with particular attention given to the diggers, cement trucks and cranes shaping their new school. The children will be able to keep an eye on developments thanks to two windows which have been especially installed, overlooking the site.
This project, following the development started in March at Pyrford C of E school, is the second of four school construction projects funded by the Government after a successful bid by the Diocese of Guildford.
The funding for the four school improvements was secured as part of a diocesan-wide school improvement project. Nurturing education is the eighth of the twelve goals of the Transforming Church; Transforming Lives diocesan vision launched in September 2016.
Diocesan Director of Education Steve Green said, “St Lawrence is a glowing example of a Church school which, in keeping with its history, is providing education of the highest quality within a supportive community.
“The re-building of the school will be a blessing to local children for generations to come.”
