December 11 - The BBC reports this morning that at least 60 bodies have been recovered from a church that collapsed in the south-eastern Nigerian city of Uyo and that the number of dead could be much higher.
The roof of the church caved in on worshippers who had gathered for the ordination of a bishop.
The Diocese of Guildford is linked in partnership with the Church of Nigeria in what is the longest standing partnership link in the Anglican Communion of over 50 years.
“We remember the Diocese of Uyo in our prayers today, for the rescue of survivors and comfort for the bereaved,” the Bishop of Guildford Andrew Watson tweeted immediately after hearing the news.
