St Paul's handbell ringers hit the right note

Date: 16 January 2017

St Paul's young handbell ringers proudly display their certificatesCongratulations to handbell ringers at St Paul's CofE Primary School, Addlestone, who have become one of only two primary school groups to win the London College of Music Handbell Ringers Ensemble Level 1 certificate – and passed with distinction.

The group at the Good Shepherd Trust academy school started as recently as September 2015 following a workshop led by the national chairman for the Handbell Ringers of Great Britain, Tim Willett, and has quickly gone from strength to strength.

The ensemble performed at Horsell May Fair and alongside adult players at St Lawrence’s Church, Chobham, before appearing before a panel of examiners for the certificate.

Music teacher Carol Webb said: "St Paul’s is one of only two primary schools to have been awarded the new certificate and the children are very proud to have passed with distinction.

"We are grateful to Mr Willetts for making this all possible and it has brought a new and magical sound into our school, especially at Christmas.

"It is lovely that we now have two members who, despite moving up to secondary school in September, still return to St Paul’s to continue playing.

"We all hope that we are doing our part in keeping  this wonderful tradition alive by bringing it to a new audience."
