Surrey goes into bat for carers

Date: 09 April 2019

Surrey goes to bat for carersThe Diocese of Guildford and Action for Carers Surrey have formed an exciting new partnership with Surrey County Cricket Club, to support carers of all ages across the region.

Carer Support Adviser for the diocese, the Revd Clive Richardson, and Jamie Gault, CEO of Action for Carers, met with Chevy Green, Participation Manager at the cricket club at its home, The Oval, to look at ideas for the new partnership. Surrey Country Cricket Club are keen to widen participation and encourage young people to take up sport and enjoy cricket.

A number of opportunities will be available for carers of all ages through the partnership, with ideas including attending matches both at Guildford and The Oval, inclusion in coaching sessions, and behind the scenes visits to deepen understanding of the game and its history. Carers will be given the memorable experience of touring The Oval, a historic and famous centre for the game of cricket.

The Revd Clive Richardson said,

“Our partnership with Surrey Country Cricket Club offers a terrific opportunity and experience for carers and particularly young carers. This will bring recognition of their needs, and give them a real boost through the opportunity to do something very special.”

“The kingdom of heaven is like a mustard seed that someone took and sowed in his field;

it is the smallest of all the seeds, but when it has grown it is the greatest of shrubs and becomes a tree, so that the birds of the air come and make nests in its branches.”

Matthew 13:31
