The Bishop of Guildford, Andrew Watson has announced the appointment of Mr Chris Cloke as new Independent Chair of the Diocesan Safeguarding Advisory Panel (DSAP). As Chair, Chris will be responsible for ensuring that DSAP has an independent voice and separate identity and that it is able to fulfil its core role of providing objective, independent scrutiny and challenge of safeguarding practice across the Diocese of Guildford. Chris is responsible for advising the Bishop of Guildford, senior leaders and the Diocese on the safeguarding of children and vulnerable adults.
Bishop Andrew said of the appointment; "Chris brings a wealth of experience on safeguarding, with a particular focus on children, following a career in the voluntary and community sector. He has undertaken a wide range of leadership roles, most recently with the National Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Children (NSPCC) where he was the Head of Safeguarding in Communities and prior to that was the Head of Child Protection Awareness. Earlier roles in his career have included Head of Commission Secretariat at the National Commission of Inquiry into the Prevention of Child Abuse and a Policy and Information role at Age Concern England.
In addition to his employed roles, he has undertaken a wide range of trustee and advisory roles and has contributed to many policy papers and publications on child protection and abuse.
We look forward to working together as we take all steps to create a safe place in which to live, work and worship."
