Invitation to Tender: Appointment of Diocesan Registrar

The Bishop of Guildford is seeking to appoint a Diocesan Registrar with effect from 1 September 2024. Candidates must have proven legal competence, good interpersonal skills, and be communicant member of the Church of England.

While acting as legal advisor to the Bishop and senior staff on Ecclesiastical law, the Diocesan Registrar will provide the professional services set out in Schedule 2 of The Legal Officers (Annual Fees) Order, and play a role in clergy discipline matters under the Clergy Disciplinary Measure. As Registrar to the Consistory Court the Registrar will deal with faculty matters overseeing applications from parishes under the Ecclesiastical Jurisdiction and Care of Churches Measure 2018. The Registrar will oversee the legal procedure for the ordination of clergy and clergy appointments preparing legal documentation, and responsible for the maintaining diocesan records and the Patronage Register. The Registrar will act as registrar to Diocesan Synod providing advise on governance and constitutional matters.
