Please note: to enhance the user experience, we have created links within the new syllabus document to assist with navigation around it. When you hover over the contents list and a hand displays, this will link to the relevant section. In the curriculum overview for each key stage, you will also see the hand appear in the title columns and this link will take you to the relevant unit.
Surrey SACRE is also responsible for advising schools on matters related to their collective worship and has produced the following guidance:
Time to Reflect - A guide to Collective Worship in Surrey's maintained schools
Encounters with Faith - Guidance about visits and visitors to Religious Education and Collective Worship.
Non-Statutory Support Materials
Support materials can be adapted by schools to suit their setting. They are designed to support the statutory content of the Agreed Syllabus which is shown within grey boxes on each unit plan. Schools must ensure that they cover this content in the learning that they plan using these support materials.
Most unit plans from the syllabus have been expanded to describe a journey of learning that is enquiry-based. The plans also include skills that pupils will practise, key vocabulary, and suggestions for pupil progress, as well as some background information for teachers and an assessment grid based on the expected attainment for the unit.
You can also find information to aid curriculum planning, including the guidance documents 'A beginner's guide to enquiry in RE' and the overview of the statutory content of the primary curriculum 'Building a curriculum' that were used during the implementation training.
The links below will take you to the materials for each key stage.
Surrey RE Networks
These local networking groups are now very well established and regarded as a useful forum for RE subject leaders in Primary schools using the Surrey Agreed Syllabus for RE. The meetings usually have a specified focus, which is suggested by the group, although there are always opportunities to share good practice and useful resources, as well as a chance to explore bigger issues in the wider world of RE. In the past, session focuses have included RE & story, visits to places of worship, subject knowledge sessions (Humanism, Sikhism & Buddhism, to name just three), going deeper in RE, theological thinking, and assessing progress in RE.
Participants will have opportunities to network with colleagues in the local area, receive updates on local and national developments in RE and gain an awareness of useful resources in RE, all contributing to the DfE Teachers' Standards. We meet once a term, in a range of locations. To book onto the networks, please use the link and scroll down to the bottom of the ‘networks’ section to book on to your preferred venue.
