Funeral of the late Rt Revd Andrew Watson, Bishop of Guildford announced

The Rt Revd Paul Davies, Bishop Dorking has announced the funeral details of The Rt Revd Andrew Watson following his death last week.

The funeral will be held on Monday 23 March at 12 noon in Guildford Cathedral. The funeral will take place in the context of a celebration of the Holy Eucharist.

In a letter and video message to the diocese, Bishop Paul explained that a lot of thought had been given to how to allocate seats, but also how to “enable everyone to be part of this act of worship and thanksgiving for the life of Bishop Andrew.”

Attendance will be organised as follows: -

  • Family and friends of Bishop Andrew
  • Church of England bishops
  • Licensed clergy of the Diocese of Guildford
  • Representatives of different ministries within the Diocese and Nation
  • Representatives of wider life (including civic leaders) across Surrey, Hampshire, Sussex and Greater London.
  • Remaining seating will be allocated to each of the deaneries to ensure there is representation from each parish in the diocese.

The Cathedral will be in touch directly with those who have been allocated seats. 

For those who will not be able to attend the Cathedral service, the following churches will be streaming the live service, enabling people to join together in worship and remembrance.

  • Christ Church, Woking
  • St. Paul's Church Howell Hill, Ewell
  • St Andrew’s Church, Cobham  Church St, Cobham KT11 3EJ (There is some parking at the church by Church Gate House, but plenty more at Holly Hedge Road Car Park which is just a few minutes' walk from the church.
  • St. John's Church Egham
  • Holy Trinity Church, Claygate
  • St. Paul's Church, Dorking
  • St. Nicolas’ Church, Cranleigh
  • Church on The Heath, Fleet
  • St. Peter and St Paul’s Church, Godalming
  • St. Andrew’s Church, Farnham
  • St. Paul's Church, Camberley
  • St. Nicolas’ Church, Guildford

 

Prior to his death, Bishop Andrew requested that donations in his memory be given to support the mission and ministry of Guildford Cathedral.
