How were they called? - David Packham

Date: 27 June 2022

The annual ordination services are less than a week away now and we continue to share the stories behind those who will become the new Reverends in town.

David Packham from the parish of St Paul, Nork with St Mary in Burgh Heath will be ordained as a Deacon, and shares his on how he was called.

"Attending Guildford Diocese’s SHAPE course in 2017 brought vocation into focus and taking some time out to follow this up was important. The effect of this sense of vocation has been a re-ordering of priorities as a call has been waiting at life’s crossroads. I made a conscious effort to open myself to possibilities, with support from the vicar at my church and another local priest who acted as a ‘soul friend’ on my vocational journey. One verse really struck me while going into a local church during a walk around Pyrford, where I found a prayer card saying “I am about to do something new”. The Bible text was: ‘Forget the former things: do not dwell on the past. See, I am doing a new thing! Now it springs up; do you not perceive it? I am making a way in the wilderness and streams in the wasteland.’ Isaiah 43:18-19."

All are invited to celebrate and welcome the candidates at Guildford Cathedral on the weekend of 2nd and 3rdJuly. For more details, visit our ordinations page. If you feel a calling and would like to explore a path of ordination, please visit our vocations page.
