New children’s worship song released by local parish

Date: 12 December 2022

It’s not every day that a new church worship song gets a commercial release. But that’s what’s being celebrated at St John’s, Stoke.

“I call on Jesus” was released on the New Wine record label at the beginning of the month.

Worship pastor David Neutel, a professional musician teamed up with the church’s Children’s and Families’ Pastor, Janet Williams, to write the lyrics and music. The song is now available on Spotify and the YouTube video features young people who go to St John’s.

David has written and recorded a follow up single, Deep, due for release soon.

To support the wave of creativity, the church’s PCC have agreed to launch their own record label, SJS Music. In the coming months it plans to release more compositions on its own label.

“I am continually humbled and amazed by what the Lord is doing here in this place,” says Rector Mark Woodward. “I have been here nearly 17 years now and I cannot think that I have ever been more excited about this church than I am now. It is a very real privilege.”

David is friends with a number of international worship leaders. Consequently, St John’s is  planning a 'School of Worship' to train up new worship leaders for local churches with David and guest worship leaders.

Looking ahead, Graham Kendrick, the Christian singer, songwriter and worship leader is coming to St John’s to lead an evening of worship. The composer of standards like “Shine Jesus Shine”, and “The Servant King” will be in St John’s on 21 January, which you can book for here.
