Prayer in the life of a church school

Prayer can be...

  • Part of collective worship.
  • At the start of a governors meeting.
  • To mark special times in the school year
  • A prayer group for your local school

Prayer Groups

Some schools have a group of parents, staff and friends of the school who meet regularly to pray for the needs of the school. These groups exist for both church schools and community schools. There is guidance about setting up and running such a group below.

Prayer Spaces in Schools

Since 2008 over 1000 prayer spaces have been run in primary schools, secondary school and colleges around the country. Prayer Spaces provide the opportunity for children to reflect and pray in a way that is appropriate to their age and religious background. View more on the Prayer Spaces in School website.

“The kingdom of heaven is like a mustard seed that someone took and sowed in his field;

it is the smallest of all the seeds, but when it has grown it is the greatest of shrubs and becomes a tree, so that the birds of the air come and make nests in its branches.”

Matthew 13:31
