Fifteen brave the Leap of Faith

Fifteen individuals took the ‘Leap of Faith’ on the sunny bank holiday Saturday from the top of Guildford Cathedral.

This abseiling fundraiser was open to all, in aid of the Cathedral and all that takes place within its walls.

Already standing at the highest point in Guildford atop of Stag Hill, the 15 supporters climbed the 249 steps to reach the top of the Cathedral’s 160-foot tower. So not for the fainthearted!

Amongst the group of Cathedral staff, volunteers and members of the congregation was the Diocese’s very own Liz Mitchell. Liz, who is part of the Admin Team at the Diocese, felt inspired to take the opportunity. “Although I have been inside the Cathedral, I haven't been up the tower, so I thought this was the perfect opportunity.”

Liz shared, “On a personal level the wording 'leap of faith' resonated with me as this time last year, after a few difficult months for one reason and another, I took a 'leap of faith', leaving my job of 8 years and taking some time out. A year on I am settled into my new job, and, having taken a leap of faith metaphorically, I felt drawn to take on this physical leap of faith.”

The Cathedral has a positive impact on a lot of lives. Monica and Sian, parents of former and current choristers, also took the leap, saying, “We wish to highlight the need for funding for this incredible space which as well as providing outstanding choral music, provides a place of worship, solace, and comfort for us and for many.”
