Help make your community Slavery Free

Anti-Slavery Awareness Week kicks off on Monday 16 October and we wanted to let you know what’s available to help you get involved.

Modern slavery is very much present in our society and local area but is unfortunately hidden from most. The aim of campaigns, such as Anti-Slavery Awareness Week, is to help equip each of us to recognise and report the signs of slavery.

The Clewer Initiative, the Church of England’s work to combat modern slavery, is running Do One Thing to mark Anti-Slavery Day (18 October) and calling individuals and organisations to consider the one action, big or small, they can commit to help make their community Slavery Free.

The website holds a host of resources and suggestions to ponder and make your own, including:

There’s also the opportunity to attend a Lunch & Learn online session run by The Clewer Initiative on Wednesday 18 October. You can find out more and book your place here.

Closer to home, the Diocese of Guildford, Surrey Anti-Slavery Partnership and Reigate Archdeaconry Social Justice Focus are joining together to hold ‘Modern Slavery Right Here Right Now’, an awareness event taking place on Saturday 21 October. This is an event open to all and you can find further details here.

We hope to share further resources throughout 16-23 October on our social channels (search @cofeguildford) to mark Anti-Slavery Awareness Week. Do let us know what you get involved with and the one thing you do to help your community become Slavery Free.
